Orlando bonanja

As they say, seeing is believing. Whoever can think that Whales can be trained, least of all, Killer Whales.Well,if you happen to be in the Sea World in Orlando, you are likely to come back with  memories of  the most happening   hour of  your life. Six Whales. Jumping, dancing, prancing. All to the commands of their mentors who are,of course,on firm ground.Mind you, these Whales are trained but not yet civilized. They are guided by basic instinct.Conditioned to food and animal instinct to strike. It is amazing to see how training had been evolved to condition them in a most unusual place.Namely, far from their natural habitat and in a pool. One can see 2 shows a day.Seats next to pool are splash ones.Better to sit at back if you plan to operate a camera.Better idea is to see it twice. That way one can manage to actually see it and enjoy wheras te other show can be seen behind the lens.Whales jump on to the foyer area and ground themselves.Occasionally, you see them jumping high and take somersaults.Very often they will splash at you in ecstasy of school children. And the beauty is,there is danger looming large always.Beauty is grotesque.

Indian Economy Series....

Many of us might be shell shocked.Govt now proposes to buy and sell gold and that too from public. What is more, gold from famous Tirupati and other temples shall be bought and sold to public who are voracious consumers of gold. After all,a large quantity of gold ultimately comes back to the temples only as donations and stay put there for no rhyme or reason.Circulation of gold can save us some imports and in the process a lot of precious dollars at this time.

Gold and land. These are the two main planks for our people's investment strategy. If one is rich and is endowed with good spare  fund to invest in quantum of say 10 Lacs Rupees and above, one goes for investment in land.No other investment is so sure of a return.Almost always it returns 4 times the value in a span of 10 years as a thumb rule.If you are lucky and there is some kind of a project or highway, the value may be more.In any case, there is a pressure of population growth and land is scarce commodity. So land is the first choice for any moneyed man.

But what if the investor is not that rich yet he has a sustainable and steady income.Even it may be an unsteady income too..but some kind of income. The investor has liability and he has to save for future. The obvious choice is gold. One buys anywhere from 2gm to 10 gm of gold a month and save.Gold value always goes up and traditionally in marriages gold is a must mode of gift. Therefore, gold comes as second best investment tool.

All other instruments including bank FD and Life Insurance policies come after that. The priority for shares and MFs (except few states like Gujarat may be) comes much after that.Hence,in India we find gold gets getting imported in hordes. Our people cannot trust market or Manager, much less politicians. But they trust gold and land for future survival tool kit and instrument.

But this also explains the singular failure of our governance method and system wherein we could not harness the mainstay of our population to growth story.India story actually remains a fable,a rupkatha. Why because, our people hear it but do not take part in it.Our India Inc is interested in profit making and they may eagerly invest abroad. Our top brass find Europe and US as better places to start business.Even lesser large Corporates like Welspun may be seen taking openings in US.Not to speak of Tatas and Ambanis who have been investing hard into other continents .Bhartis are household name in Africa rather than North east India.

No doubt,we are in a soup.It is as if my house is on fire and I expect my neighbor to get a bucket of water and I standby. Now,gold has to have intra country circulation rather than making more and more dead import and spending foreign exchange. This way,we may make the bond market buoyant and may be get funds into stock market.Let us hope for the best and pray that good sense prevails. All said and done, developments cannot take place in a day,but a beginning has to be made.

Indian Economy

Current state of our economy is,I am afraid not an encouraging picture. We have our exchange rate falling freely with Govt and the RBI as mute spectators.Given the dismal position of balance of payments reserve,it is futile to shore up a sinking boat of exchange rate. What the Central Bank had been asking hoarse for past so many months regarding fiscal deficit as percentage of GDP is raising its ugly head.Earlier,India Inc had always given the picture that with loosening monetary policy and lowering interest rates, competition is suffering and unless the same is corrected, markets are not likely to chug up.This is only a limited picture and real facts are far away from it.

As someone in World Bank has rightly said:If tapering is the only cause of a dwindling Indian economy ,then why are not the Indians investing.Fact is,our India Inc dear is so interested in profit that India story does not really bother them so much as profit does.So tapering or not,we shall invest our fund abroad and Bank with Swiss Banks.A Rolls Royce worth Rs 4.60 Crore may have great market potential here when growth is negative.Markets are daily going down and we have only Dow to blame. Why is record gold imported here in face of exchange crisis and huge import bills is something nobody is bothered to address.

Now,do we really have a Govt these days is a big question.Who does the Govt represent anyway? These are basic questions we need to answer.

I hope to get some comments or criticsm..both are welcome....

Civic amenities in Metro Cities-Kolkata

Time is 9:30 AM.Place downtown Kolkata's busy thoroughfare,M G Road connecting Howrah Station and Sealdah Station. This is a major artery of the city. One can see people pissing on the road during a traffic signal at C R Avenue crossing on a week day.In full view of public. Is this civic?

Question is what is the Govt doing? Are not there not  enough public Urinals at convenient location? No,there are not is the sad fact.Same experience I had another day when I was travelling back from Office.Taxi driver started complaining the moment I boarded about his uneasiness and the fact that there is no Urinal on the route I am supposed to take to Salt Lake. However,he was a rather loquacious fellow and that state did hardly deter his speech. We had to take a detour in order to accommodate him.

Looking to the population and floating population that we have in the city,Policing the issue is hardly a solution.Neither does the administration has that much manpower nor does it make any sense to goad your citizens the way Britishers used to treat which is already the case with our Police and we shall be only worse off to allow one more arsenal to their credit.

Only solution of course lies in making more amenities and allow people to use it a at a low cost. Will the Govt come out of its slumber??
